Wirral Maternity and Neonatal Voices

WE SAID, WE DID

TOGETHER WE HAVE:

  • MNVP Chair has been able to advocate for service users when needed.

  • Quarterly Cycle Created - Gather feedback – Brainstorm Themes & Actions – Formal meeting

  • Communication Strategy Developed
Posters/leaflets designed – given out at booking/discharge from care.

  • Social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) created and utilised. Email, website and digital feedback form which are monitored.

  • Worked in partnership with the maternity leadership team to restore services, especially partners being allowed to accompany the birthing person to appointments. Partners are now allowed to attend all hospital based appointments on production of a negative Lateral Flow Test.

  • Carried out the '15 Steps' in the Wirral Women and Children's Hospital in December 2020 and September 2021. MVP Chair and Consultant Midwife livestreamed a walk around of the Maternity Wards of the hospital and discussed what was working well and what could be improved. 15 Steps of the Birth Centre March 2021 was completed in the same way.

  • Discussed the need for improvements to Breast feeding support and Tongue Tie observation.

  • Worked in partnership with Dr. Libby Shaw, Consultant Obstetrician, to improve Induction of Labour and are continuing to develop materials for parents and families, providing information about Induction of Labour. We asked service users to name and choose artwork for the new Induction of Labour Suite

  • We returned to face to face listening events and hosted the MVP's 3rd Birthday party.

  • Worked with service users and maternity staff to co-design murals painted in the Maternity wards, including Angel Wings to boost staff morale.

  • We hosted Maternal Mental Health Day events through social media. For example a livestream with Dr. Emily Asley, Clinical Psychologist.

  • We hosted fortnightly livestreams on Social Media and also special livestreams covering the Covid-19 Vaccine, Induction of Labour and Caesarean Sections. We also had videos about Covid-19 in Turkish and Polish.

  • Support the Team in completing the Ockenden Requirements, including reviewing the WUTH Maternity website and offering suggestions of improvement from service users.

  • We have worked with Wirral Multicultural Organisation to improve outcomes for those from the BAME communities as a result of the MBRRACE Report.

  • Worked with Liverpool John Moore's University Student Midwives to share lived experience of Maternity stories. We have also supported the University in the design of their Maternity course.

  • We have also supported the University of Chester in the design of their Maternity course.

  • Worked with service users and maternity staff to co-design murals painted in the Maternity wards.

  • We hosted Wirral's First Maternal Mental Health Day Event.

WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON:

  • Ensuring information relating to coronavirus and the impact this has on maternity services within Wirral is continually updated and communicated to service users.

  • We are working towards partners of birthing people being allowed into all appointments.

  • Raising awareness and give support to seldom heard voices.

  • Ensuring maternity materials are available in other languages to support those from the BAME communities.

  • We are working with the Perinatal Mental Health Team to ensure your voice is being heard to improve services.

  • Ensuring our surrogate families are supported throughout their maternity experience.

  • Ensuring that fathers and partners feel included in the maternity experience.
